Karen Stocker has spent several years in Latin America; living in and studying various cultures and traditions, which she incorporates into her work both as an artist and as a cultural anthropologist. Her experiences are infused into her art with emphasis on the cultural and social patterns of everyday life in rural settings.

Ordinary images as diverse as tropical plants, textiles, and wrought iron gates have all influenced her vision. Just as is the case with cultural expression, people view different things in the same piece of art. [Ed. note: some of us see hills, thermals and gliders in her drawings.]

Karen teaches at California State University, Fullerton.
